Elevating Quiet Luxury: A Design Story with Bon Matin

When Maureen Finnerty opened Bon Matin in the heart of downtown Chatham in 2022, she set out to create something truly special — a boutique filled with the necessary and the extraordinary. Bon Matin offers luxurious linens, artisan-made sleepwear, and curated gifts that celebrate quiet luxury and the joy of gathering. Every piece in her shop is chosen with intention: women-owned brands, sustainable materials, and hand-crafted goods that can’t be found anywhere else. From the very beginning, I had the privilege of partnering with Maureen to help bring her vision to life visually. Together, we crafted Bon Matin’s brand identity through logo design, signage, print materials, and a custom website.

A Collaborative Process

My design process always begins with listening. Before diving into sketches or mockups, I spent time with Maureen understanding her story, her goals, and what she wanted her customers to feel the moment they walked through her doors. That clarity guided every design decision, from logo variations that worked across print and digital platforms to signage that reflected the boutique’s refined but welcoming character.

Designing the Logo: Paris Meets the Cape

The name Bon Matin means “good morning” in French, and Maureen envisioned a touch of Parisian sophistication woven into her brand identity. We explored imagery, typography, and subtle details that nodded to that Parisian charm while still feeling fresh and approachable.

At the same time, we grounded the design in a coastal-inspired color palette, ensuring that the boutique felt perfectly at home in Chatham, just steps from the Cape Cod shoreline. The result is a logo that blends quiet European elegance with a breezy coastal sensibility — a visual identity that welcomes customers with both warmth and style.

Print Materials Made Simple

Small business owners juggle so much, and I believe design should ease the load, not add to it. Beyond designing Bon Matin’s business cards, stickers, bags, and hang tags, I also handle ordering and reordering those pieces as needed. This ensures consistency across every touchpoint of the brand and takes one more task off Maureen’s plate, letting her focus on curating the beautiful collection her customers love.

When Storms Happen

Every project comes with unexpected challenges, and I love being able to step in and solve them for my clients. One winter, a storm damaged Bon Matin’s exterior sign. Rather than simply replacing it, I brought the sign home, repaired it myself, and returned it better than new — ready to be re-hung and proudly displayed once again.

For me, design isn’t just about creating something beautiful at the start. It’s also about supporting my clients as their businesses grow and adapt, making sure their brand presence always looks its best.

Building a Brand That Lasts

Designing the logo, signage, print materials, and website was just the beginning. As Bon Matin has grown, so has our collaboration. Three years later, in 2025, I continue to design ads and create social media content for the boutique. This ongoing relationship allows me to keep Bon Matin’s visuals fresh and consistent while giving Maureen the space to focus on what she does best — bringing the necessary and the extraordinary to her customers.

Working with Maureen has been a true pleasure. Her dedication to quality and her eye for unique, meaningful pieces made it easy to reflect Bon Matin’s personality through thoughtful design. Together, we’ve built a brand presence that feels as timeless and elegant as the goods on her shelves.
